Are you sure about the 'restore button'? Is it not the 'update button'?

I just started it with the 'restore button' but have a sneaky feeling about it. :S

hi there, i'm on 1.1.5, 1st generation, can i upgrade to OS 3 directly? or i will need to upgrade to OS 2.2.1 then go to OS 3?

i tried to follow hit shift and restore, but it pops out an error msg saying, "firmware file is not compatible".. what shall i do? Thanks!

I'm using an iPod Touch with 2.2.1 installed. With a Windows PC, I chose to use the key combination shift-Windows while clicking on Restore as the instructions read (yes, there was some finger-crossing on my part and a little bit of knocking on wood).

I did not unzip the file after download. I figured correctly that iTunes is treating the package (which is about 225 megs in size) like a cab file and decompressing it as it loads.

So far so good...

It stopped...completed so it appears and now after re-starting the settings show that it is indeed version 3.0. WAY COOL!

Hopefully, the file is good and I don't run into any issues...like I said, cross fingers, knock on wood.

Thanks! Nice we could do this without jailbreaking the iPod Touch.

Ciao and good luck!

I had no problems updating my iPod touch (1st generation, firmware 2.0) with the new 3.0 firmware.

Thanks a lot!
