I checked apple discussion board for ipod touch saw many wi-fi questions. So I thought this is not a trick but it is a tip on how to setup your ipod touch for wireless.
First ask your self do you have secured or unsecured wireless connection?
If secured:
1. Go to Settings
2. Go to Wi-FI
3. Click on Your Wireless
4. Punch in your WEP key
5. Connect to it.
If NOT Secured
Follow all steps above except no.4

hi, i've had my touch for a year now and the internet has been working perfectly however a few months ago i got it jail broken and the internet was still working as usual but in the past few weeks it has totally gone and doesn't work, i'd reset the factory settings but i still want it to be jailbroken so is there anything you would reccommend?

A lot of your problems will more than likely be the router, not the iPod itself. If you have admin access to your router settings make sure DHCP Server is ENABLED, that should solce the problem!
Hi, got my ipod touch for christmas last year and have only really become interested in getting the Wi-fi set up now. the ipod recognises my broadband details and has full connection strength. there is still the wee lock symbol is still there in grey. when i go into safari it says 'Safari cannonopen the page because it is not connected to the internet.' I had the same problems with my ipod. it would say i was connected but wouldnt load the safari. I found a way to fix it without restoring my whole ipod. Go to your settings then into general. scroll to the bottom and click "reset" then choose to reset only your network settings. after that you might find a button somewhere in your settings that says "resotre lease" or something like that. Click that button and then everything should be fine :) it would for me. Good luck!
My ipod all of a sudden stopped being able to connect to the internet. I have restored my ipod touch back to factory settings and tried to go from there, but it still would not read any of the wireless networks that I was at (I tried seeing if it would read 5 different networks, and it would not even pick up on them). Then I went to manually set up the network connection, and that too did not work. What could have happened that it suddenly stopped working? Also, how do I fix this issue?
I really dont know if my first post posted, but here is the summary of that just incase. My ipod touch is not connecting to any wireless networks. It is not even picking up a signal from any of them. All of a sudden I was unable to connect to any networks, and I have tried connecting to 5 different ones. My iPod is just a mess. The power button won't work (so I can't totally shut it down, and have to wait 1 minute for it to go to sleep) and I can't seem to get my wifi to work (it shows that I am connected, but nothing using wifi works). 1) How can I get my power button to work, 2) how can I get my wifi back (without power button), and 3) how can I shut off my ipod without using the power button (if possible)?

One thing that worked for me - I disabled the WEP key . The ipod wouldn't work with WEP, WPA OR WPA2. Basicly, it wouldn't connect if my wireless connection was secure - I have had to make it unsecured. I spent almost the whole of Christmas day trying to get the thing to connect and it came up with a range of excuses - invalid argument, cannot connect to network, etc...etc... nothing wrong with my wireless connection because we have a macbook on it too and that works perfectly. finally got it connected today when I disabled the WEP key. Don't care if this means the neighbours can 'piggyback' my wireless - my daughter is ecstatic and thinks I'm wonderful!!!

The ipod detects the network and I input the necessary WEP code and it shows up on the ipod as a successful wi-fi connection, but when i go to safari, youtube, and iTunes it says "cant connect" or "invalid argument."

Had problem connecting an IPOD Touch to Linksys wireless router WRT54G. Upgraded the firmware and it is now working.
1) Check the bottom of the router for the firmware version (e.g. V5).
2) Go here to get latest update. *** important *** please ensure you select the "hardware version" dropdown menu that matches your router hardware from step1

3) On left side of page, under "Firmware", click download, and save the "bin" file
The following are modified steps from the Linksys readme file
4) Open your web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.)
5) In the Address bar, type in the IP address of your router. The default IP address is 192.168.1.1.
6) Leave the username blank and enter your password. The default password is "admin", all lower case.
7) Click on the Administration tab.
8) Click on Firmware Upgrade.
9) Browse for the firmware file that you previously downloaded. The file name should end in .bin
10) Click the Upgrade button.
11) The router will begin its upgrade routine. Do not power off or unplug the router until the process is completed. This process may take up to 5 minutes to complete.
12) Reset the router
12) Reset the ipod settings to new router settings (if any), and it should work.
Note: When configuring the router "wireless settings", please ensure the "Wireless SSID Broadcast" enable radio button is selected, otherwise the IPOD will not be able to list that device.

i bought my ipod touch and i had been using the wifi for a couple of days. then all of a sudden it stopped working. it just wouldnt connect to the internet at all. i had the right password and everything. whenever i typed it in, it said unable to join the network. even though i had unlocked it and i had a strong signal. i went online on my desktop and it said to reset my ipod so i did...and it still didnt work.
Okay so im starting to hate my ipod now. I have had it for over a year now, and every other place i go, the wifi connects perfectly even with a password. I feel like I have tried everything to get the wifi to connect at home. I have reset the router, reset my ipod, and i have tried resetting my ipod to its factory settings. Nothing is working.
When I go to settings then wifi networks my connection has full bars and a check mark as if it was connected. But when i go the the wifi informtion nothing is filled in the IP addresss, subnet mask, router, dns, search domain, or client ID. I have tried forgetting the network and renewing the lease. Still does not work...

Hi i recently bought and ipod touch 3rd generation (8GB). My internet doesn't seem to work on it though. For the past three days i've been searching online and have not yet found a solution. I have WPA2 Personal security for my wireless internet and am using a Wireless-G Linksys Broadband Router. The password i enter for wifi when connecting to my network i am almost postive is right. I also have an xbox 360 which has been running perfectly fine off my wifi for about a year now. Sometimes i even have bars (1 or 2) at the top left corner on my touch yet when i click on the internet it says "Connecting" for like 20 minutes. Most of the time though i don't have those bars there they just disappear. The usual error message i get is "Operation could not be completed. Invalid argument" when i open up safari. Nothing that i need wifi to use (youtube, itunes, App Store) on my itouch works.

I had this issue, too. iPod says it's connected to my wireless but only actually connects to my wireless for a few seconds after I forget and reinstall the network or after I restore network settings. Other than that, never works. I've tried everything I've read on various forums about the issue: changed from WEP to WPA, changed WPA key three times, tried different DNS servers, in addition to renewing lease, trying all different types of router settings, etc. Every other network I'm on works fine, though. I spent a total of about 4 hours on the phone with Mac and 4 more on the phone with my ISP. The bottom line is that both say it's not their fault and I'm stuck with an iPod that doesn't work.

My iPod works great, most of the time. But sometimes the Wifi tells me it's "Not Connected". Usually when this happens I just need to reset the wifi, but this time it still won't connect. If you keep getting "incorrect password" using your Iphone when trying to connect to a Linksys (WRT54G) Router.
Try typing in the WEP "key 1" numbers (not the actual password or passphrase)
They are located in the "wireless security" settings.
1. Go to 192.168.1.1
2. Enter "admin" for both username and password (actual one NOT "key 1" numbers)
3. Go to Wireless/Wireless Security and they should be right there.
4. If Default Transmit Key "1" is marked use "key 1" numbers, if "2" is marked use "key 2" numbers, etc.

Had lots of Ipod Touch problems with wifi. Drop signal, poor signal. Eventually found blog suggesting going to router setting and change router channel from "auto" to 1, 6 or 11. Works perfectly, full signal strength and internet is as fast as computer.

My ipod Touch has recently stopped connecting to the internet via the wi-fi. When I start Safari the screen just comes up with "connecting" then...nothing. The Facebook App won't connect, it just comes up with "Error cannot display...", Youtube won't connect and the weather update just fails. Could it be an IP related problem? I have a home WiFi networwith lots of devices attached: laptops, desktops, DS's, DSi's, PSP's, a Wii, an xBox 360, plus a couple of others. The iPod Touch is the first device that I haven't been able to get connected. In fact, its the first Apple device I've owned.
I have a LinkSys router set to 128 bit WEP encryption on key1. Pretty simple. The WEP key works on everything else. But the iPod Touch just says "can't connect to server" -- and apparently that is the full extent of its troubleshooting capabilities.

to use the wep key (and not have to disable it) i had to go into the modem/router settings and actually tell my wireless to look for the ipod (this is the MAC key which can be found in settings, general, about) after doing this, it worked a charm!

I have an iPod Touch 3g. We have a wifi network at work with a WEP password. My coworker can get on the wifi with her iPhone. I can get on the wifi with my laptop and net book. But my Touch will not connect. My Touch does not have trouble connecting to other wifi networks closed or open. It just won't connect at work where I need it the most. Any insights? Hey, i dont think this is a problem with my ipod touch, but i cant connect to my home wifi because i recently got a new router and now it wont connect. On the wifi screen, it has the router signal but i cant verify it.

I had the same problems. I solved them by changing the DNS address to the one used by my router (ie my internet provider DNS address) - everything worked after that.

I have an ipod touch that connects fine to my home wireless network. It's a secure network (can't remember which encryption), but I recently ran into the following problem. I have a friend who I visit regularly who has a wireless network (Verizon Fios router which was setup by Verizon). It's also encrypted, so I entered their password and connected fine. The problem is when I return home to my wireless network (Linksys), I get an error about not being able to connect to the wireless network. I try to enter the network key and it fails every time. I finally reset my ipod and enter my password and it works fine. I've discovered that everytime that I connect to the Verizon router then come home I get this message and have learned to reset my ipod before I do anything. When the ipod starts (boots) back up, it connects to my wireless network without issues. Must be a bug somewhere in the ipod os that causes this issue. Hope that this might help others that have a similar issue with their ipod touch.

I have a first generation ipod touch and I dropped it today outside on the concrete. :S I know not good. The back panal popped off. I snapped it back on thought everything was ok. The music still played and everything else is working. However now my wifi isn't. Is there someway that something in the back could have popped loose for that? I am having just the opposite of what everyone else seems to be having. My problem is not my home connection, it works fine, but when I travel, there is not always a wireless I can connect to. My iPod touch 2G shows a "0" next to the lock symbol in "Wi-Fi Networks"> "Choose a network" after it has connected to my home network. This was not there earlier. I could not find any information online about what this could mean. I have no issues connecting to the internet.

Hello! I just got an IPod touch and was having the same issues with it saying it was connect to the internet but when I opened safari it said it was unable to connect or something. I have a secured wireless router at home and when it asked for a password, i was putting in the password I use on my computer but what the ipod needed for a password was the password located on the bottome of the wireless router!!! It took me several days to figure this out and now it works perfectly! I hope this helps a lot of you!
I had a problem when I couldn't find our my wifi password at all. It wasn't even on the box so I re entered my network disk and tryed the security lock thing. I didn't expect it to work but it did and now I'm on my iPod touch typing this ;) xx

When we switched to Shaw,My ipod touch said that it was working even on the top i had full bars . But I was not able to go to the apps that needed internet connection . Hi, I was having the same problem with the ipod touch but when i turned the wifi on and off a a few times and the turned the ipod off and on and turned th wifi on and conected to the network ,it connected succesfully.

I have a 2nd gen 32g ipod touch. All was fine until Sunday when i couldnt get a wifi connection in my house when previously ive had no problems, ive tried
* resetting my network settings
* shutting ipod down and restarting
* reset my ipod
* turning my router off and on (i have a BT homehub btw)
My ipod finds my wireless but when i enter the password it says "unable to join the network BT Homehub...." Its definately the right password im entering too!
My laptop works fine as does my phone so its got to be a problem with my ipod. Just wonder why when its worked perfectly for a year!

I purchased my Ipod touch to use the Remote application from Apple, so I could play my Itunes library through my Airport Express to my stereo receiver. It worked great for a few months even when I used it outdoors, listening to music over my outdoor speakers. Lately it is not working well at all. I keep getting the message that the Itouch cannot find the library (my music library). It works when I am indoors, but no longer has connectivity outdoors. I am trying to troubleshoot what is wrong. Does the Itouch access my music library through my computer, or through my Airport Express? My wireless router and airport express is 802.11n, but my computer, a mini mac is 802.11g. I have updated the airport express firmware, and I tried moving the wireless router closer. Any ideas?

Here's what worked for me. I found that if my macbook was connected to the wireless my touch and ipad wouldn't connect. So I put the mac book to sleep, connected the touch/ipad and then brought the mac book back up. Voila!

First of all my ipod touch is jailbroken using jailbreakme.com. I connect 2 my wireless network and normally at the top it has the signal sign but it wasent there so i reseted network settings i see the signal now but when i go to the safari it says "Safari cannot open the page because it could not connect to the server"

I don't know why but my Network Security key was different from the wep key on my modem so...
Try this, go to your computer and go to the network properties, go to security tab and click show characters, then, from your ipod, type the network security key ass your password to join the network.
