iPod Touch Wi-FI (Wireless Issues)

I checked apple discussion board for ipod touch saw many wi-fi questions. So I thought this is not a trick but it is a tip on how to setup your ipod touch for wireless.

First ask your self do you have secured or unsecured wireless connection?

If secured:

1. Go to Settings
2. Go to Wi-FI
3. Click on Your Wireless
4. Punch in your WEP key
5. Connect to it.

If NOT Secured
Follow all steps above except no.4

If you have problems connecting with your Ipod touch to your wireless please comment bellow and I will resolve your issue by answering as well. Or email me ilovetoargue at gmail dot com

Go to your wireless router and see if you can view your ipod touch, just to check if you are really connecteD? sometimes it will show you are connected but it's not. Which password are you putting in? I hope it's from router and its 26 characters long fyi.

When i view the status of the connection on the comp, it says that it is sending but nothing is being received. HOW THE HELL DO I MaKE THE POD CONNECT TO THE NETWORK?????

Anonymous said...

@Sambhu: You don't get connection from your pc you get it from your wireless router. So check wireless settings

Sometimes I get through and it works super fast, sometimes it does not want to load any page. I tried to change the DNS and renew...and agin sometimes it wors sometimes it does not. Really do not know what is the issue. My router is Linksys on DHCP

Please share little bit more info Anonymous. Is the connection secured? Have you tried reseting your router and tried that way? How about reseting your ipod touch?

Anonymous said...

Hey i just got an ipod touch and when i go into the wifi networks thing it gives u a network 2 select such as chrome phergie etc and asks for the password how do u get the password?

Anonymous said...

Anonym: Password that you need is the password of your wireless router, if you found some wireless around your neighbourhood and asks for password, that means that it's protected.
So if you have internet at home get your self 40-50$ wi-fi router and then you can have your own wireless . make sure to protect it first.

Anonymous said...

hi there, i tried to connect to the home wireless, it asked for the password, what exactly is the password? i tried keying in my internet password, but it says it cant be connected. pls help.

Had the same problem!

After struggling for 5 days last week - my 3 week old iPod Touch 16GB was till then functioning perfectly - I took the desperate steps of

1. resetting the Network settings on the iPod - which did not solve the problem, after which

2.Erasing the entire contents (thank God I hadn't much to lose!) and bring it back to its Factory settings

Even then the internet connectivity problem did not get solved.

Then I thought that I should re-synch with my laptop and after that was over, by sheer accident, I was trying to connect THE iPOD TOUCH STILL CONNECTED TO the iTunes RUNNING - and lo and behold, the connection suddenly sprang back to action.

The iPod is now working perfectly - I think that the problem is caused by using the iPod at different locations with different Hot Spots and thereby its DNS settings getting "confused" due to "information overloading".

My problem had started just after trying connectivity at various Indian Airports!

Hope this works out for you! Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year

hi there, i manage to connect to the wifi at home, but when i tried to surf the net using safari, it says that it cant find the server. any idea what went wrong?

Anonymous said...

@anony:Reset your router and then shut down your ipod touch and turn back on

Anonymous said...

anonymous: please do try the suggestion given by ipod touch tricks - but for me, resetting the router settings did not work. I had to erase my iPod to Factory Settings and then connect to iTunes of my comp. Wi-Fi connection and its symbol both came up easily, but I had to try the net connection with the iPod still connected yo my comp with iTunes running.

Please go through my earlier blog two blogs before youts.

Hi all,

I have the same problem re: password issues with connecting my Ipod Touch.

My laptop is not connected wireless but my router does have wireless capability. I hit the safari button, select my router name, it then asks for a password??? I do not know where i get this password from as i have not used the wireless function previously.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@Mangoo:Your password is the routers WEP key if you don't know how to find it, read the manual of your wireless router and also check my new post about router troubleshooting:

I'm also havin the same problem, cant connect to my home router, I know my password and when I punch it in it wont have it
The only I could make it work was to go into my router security settings and unlock it, that is, so i dont need a password to access the network, but of course your then totaly open to every tom dick and harry, so that told me that all general settings were ok and that it was just for some reason it was a password problem, so I'm still stuck as to what to do now
For those of you who want to know your password to your router, you may find it under your router

The wi-fi on my ipod Touch had worked perfectly in other places, but when I connected it to my home network, even though there is a correct IP address (there is now, the first time it connected the IP was wrong. I had to reset it to make it get a right one) and the network can see the ipod, the browser can't connect to the server... I've tried resetting and restoring.

What are the possible causes for this?

Anonymous said...

I think I know what my problem is, but I don't know how to fix it. My wireless network is set-up for WEP Key 2. When I enter my password on Key 2 the Ipod does not accept it. But when I enter the Key 1 password the ipod does accept it, but I know that my router will probably not provide the ipod with internet access. Is there anyway to tell the ipod that I am using the WEP 2 Key.
Thanks This

Hey i tried all those "solutions" that were posted but none of them really worked. I am able to connect but am still having that server problem. I put in my ip addresses and each time i connect again it restores itself to the wrong ip.

Here are my ip addresses
Ip address 192.168.1.46
Subnet ask 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.1.1
DNs 192.168.1.1

I have an ipod touch and a linksys router, WRT54G, I can get the signal fine, but when I go to settings, wifi, and select the name of my network, I am required to type in a password. I was just wondering which password it is, I tried the password to access my online router page, but that didn't work. I would just like to know where I would be able to find this password, given the fact that I know how to access my router configuration page. Thanks in advance.

go to my network places, then click on set up a wireless network for a home or office,
then go through the prompts until it asks if you want to set up automatically, click on manual setup, then click print settings, it should show you the password you have setup for your router...that should be the password for your wireless router

I had a problem with the server on my iPod Touch. It was saying that it could not connect to any server. I have a Linksys router at home that has a reset button on the back, so what I did was place my iPod touch next to my router, press the reset button, click on settings, Wi-Fi, and my iPod touch automatically started working just fine. Hopefully you guys could try this and i hope it solves your problem.

Do you have an answer to those who have a functioning WiFi network that the IPod touch shows it's connected to, that shows it's connected to the IPod touch, but, when we use Safari, we get a can't open the page because it can't find the server. I get a similar message in Youtube. FYI, the setting for my network in the IPod show a proper IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router address and DNS server address. Hope you can help. IH

My son has a touch that will not connect to the internet. I have had a long conversation with Apple support to no avail, have been given advice from shops and have talked to Linksys direct and changed my routers security settings from WEP to WPA2 on their recommendation. Nothing has worked, we have wireless connection but still it 'can't find server'. We have been trying since the beginning of November so any other tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hiya everyone.

I need your help.

I bought an iPod touch this morning. I'm loving it and it works perfectly, except for the wi-fi.

It detects my secured network but needs a password to access the connection. I assumed that this password was simply the network key, so I inserted that but it didn't help. No access whatsoever.

Can anyone help.

My ipod touch wifi works very well everywhere, except at home on my apple network. Like a lot of others, it picks up the signal, has the ip and dns info but cant connect to safari or you tube, "cant find server".

Have reset ipod, loaded recent updates etc, switched off home router. Is there a flaw here?

If you have a functioning WiFi network that the IPod touch shows it's connected to, that shows it's connected to the IPod touch, but, when you use Safari, you get a "can't open the page because it can't find the server" message, I found the following that fixed the problem for me. YMMV.

Guys/Girls: please check the update on this blog post, there are more solutions.

Also has any of you ever tried release and then renew ip address?

If you get IP address 169.x.x.x that is not an Ip address of your router, that is a default IP address. To change it usually release, renew tool helps

The blog truncated the URL of the link I posted yesterday to an article that will enable Safari and Youtube to work if your IPod can communicate with your wireless network (network symbol shows at top left of screen). To get the article do the following:
Go to http://andrewescobar.com
Click on Archive
Click on Date
Click on 2007
Click on Jul
Click on 6th
Article will display.
Please note that the article does not help with password issues. Good luck! IH

hi my wi fi works perfectly fine but i caant seem to get my you tube to work. it just says connect to an internet connection while i am already connected...any suggestions?

Anonymous said...

OK...I experienced all the same problems that everyone is listed here. I got mine to work. This is what I did. I first connected to my wireless router and it brought up all the DHCP settings and showed as connected and had an IP address. I wasn't able to connect, so I reset my router. Then I chose 'Renew Lease' on the iPod and that still didn't work. So then I went to my router's settings and put in all the DNS (3)entries that my router had. Then I tried 'Renew Lease' again. That didn't work. So, then I disconnected from my own network by choosing 'Forget this Network'. I then tried an 'open' network since I have "unsecure" neighbors. They were actually too weak of a signal. So, I then turned Wi-Fi "OFF" under Wi-Fi Networks Settings. I then proceeded to turn the Wi-Fi back "ON". I went right back to my network to reconnect to it and it assigned me an IP Address and the DNS as the router's IP (all automatically). I then went back to Safari and was able to connect to http://www.apple.com/ and view the video. The idea here is to turn your Wi-Fi off and then reconnect to your router. I did not have to 'reset' my iPod at any point. Let me know if this works for anyone.

for anyone u cant connect to thier home wifi with itouch, when entering the wep or woa passcode make sue its in the right case (press the up arrow for upper case letters).

If u r connected to wireless network but safari, youtube and itunes dont work you will have to go to general settings on itouch and reset them.

Once reset try and connect to ur wireless network again with the case sensitive wep or wpa code and it should work

For those of you having problems getting your wifi to work, here are a couple things you may want to try...

1. Make sure your software is version 1.1.2 - If you are hacking your Touch and downgrading to 1.1.1, make sure you upgrade back to 1.1.2 - I had lots of problems with the wifi and the 1.1.1 software. Twice I had to restore my Touch from iTunes and every time, then wifi worked right out of the gate.

2. If you are having problems connecting to your router, the first thing to check is that another computer can connect to your router and get online. If you can't get online with another computer, unplug the power cable from the router for a few seconds and then plug it back it. Try the Touch again.

3. If you're still having problems and have your connection encrypted with WEP/WPA/etc., disable all encryption on your router so you have a completely open and free connection. If you can now connect, you know the problem lies somewhere in you entering your password into your Touch. Be very careful when entering passwords. Try switching to WPA because you can have actual words instead of hex keys. I also read somewhere to preface your hex keys with a $, but I have no idea if that is true or if it works.

4. If you still can't connect, restore to factory default from iTunes.

Best of luck!

I bought a 8G ipod touch a few days after christmas.
The wifi works everywhere but from my home network.
I've called apple and all they say is to reset stuff, this doesnt work.
My aunt also has an ipod touch and we have came to decided that its because the networks were trying to get onto are blocked with security codes.
But i know the password to get onto my network at home.
My Ipod says im connected and it shows i have full signal. I go to safari and it says that it wont work cause the server cannot be found.
I dont know why it does this if it says im connect.
We later realized that it gives you the Ip Address and The Subnet Mask but it does not provide the Router or the DSN number.
i was just wondering if anyone could help with this.

if worst comes to worst i will have to turn off my security block to get my ipod to browse the internet but if anyone has had this problem and knows what can be done please help me out!
thanks!

@Sum:

Have you tried to release/renew Ip address? Also the password is not same as your login to the router.

WEP key is for your wireless connection and router password is for router so you are able to login and configure it.

Email me and ill help you out. Thanks.

Hello, for some reason i cannot connect, to my network, when it has before, these last few days it wont let me connect, it says "unable to connect to network", i have definetly written the password in correctly, but it still wont work. Im thinking maybe trend micro pc-cillin that i have on my pc, has stopped it from working, that it changed sum settings, also when i go to wi-fi detection intrusion on trend micro, it says there are unknown computers detected on my network and is an unknown source, im not sure if this is related to the ipod thanks
pls help

so im not sure how to email you but i have tried to renew the lease and it still doesnt work.
We talked to apple again and they said that if i have the password it should work. but we thought that maybe there was a setting on my router at home that i need to disable for my ipod to work off of it.
and you said that password wasnt the same?

We have 2 ipod touch's and both work the same. can connect to our router but get the "cannot find servers" message. put in a site's actual ip address (numbers, not name) and it connects right away. verified that dns servers are set, one is my router, secondary is the same as my router uses. still not working. going to try openDNS as suggested above. Apple should be ashamed of themselves for putting a product out in the marketplace that doesn't do what it is advertised to do. all these posts are clear evidence of a problem and yet I see no solution. very frustrating and disappointing.

i use my ipod touch fine at home (connected to internet via wireless router) but it will not connect on my school's campus wireless network. i've registered the dhcp and it connects correctly, but (like everyone else who's left comments) says "safari can't find the page because it can't
how can i set up the ipod to automatically detect ip and dns settings? i think this may be the problem...

hello guys... i just got an ipod touch 16GB last weekend. im really excited about this. i basically tested every feature, videos, music, photos, etc.

the only thing that i havent tried is the wifi since i dont have a wifi connection at home yet.

tonight i tried to setting up a home wireless network. it went well, i opened safari and could browse the internet quite well. my problem now is this:

i have the january 2008 software update so i have Mail in my ipod, i tried to setup my account but i cant seem to connect to my mail servers (smtp,imap,pop3). however, i don't think that its with my mail setup cause i was able to send test emails. my problem though is that i cant receive emails and i can only send emails when i go to Settings>WiFi and connect to my router, then quickly change to Mail. the wifi signal on top disappears. how do you keep the wifi signal persistent (always connected) when using Mail? is this a normal behavior? does it disappear when you use Mail? with safari, the wifi signal is present. this also happens when im using youtube. i need your help please.. thanks.. can you email your suggestions at blackhowling1385 at gmail dot com? thanks a lot... =)

I have my ITouch working well on mmy home wireless network - it connects automatically - now (on the road) I have set up an ad-hoc wireless network from my laptop (it works like the router) so I have an ethernet plugged into my laptop and the laptop is the wireless infrastructure node for the ITouch - got it working but even though the Laptop is set up to automatically connect and the ITouch is set up to 'ask to jon netowrks' I must manually connect to my 'laptop' wireless network and input the 16 digital WEP key every time I restart my ITouch - is there any way to get it to work like at home i.e. turn on the ITouch and it atomatically conencts to my laptop's wireless network.

(Incidentally - when I manually connect the ITouch says the connection failed and there is no IP address, router, etc. - if I wait 15 sec. they all appear and I am on the net - it takes my Laptop's dhcp etc. 15 seconds to respond to the ITouch which is impatient with its messages)

I connected my iPod Touch to my router at home and I'd be on the internet on the iPod and whatnot. But what's pissing me off, is that even when I'm like, 2 feet away from my router, my iPod will randomly disconnect from the network and I'll have to go and connect it back. Is there anyway for me to get it to stop having disconnecting spasms like this?

My new ipod touch would connect to my 2wire router, but when I tried connecting through the internet through itunes, safari, youtube, it gave a "Safari can't open the page because it can't find the server" message. I found that when I entered the normal wep password, it would get the wrong ip address and no router address or dns at all. I entered the default 64- bit encryption key on the bottom of the router, and now the wifi works fine.

i've had my ipod touch for over a month. the internet worked perfectly at first. at home i was using my secure network, and had no problems. then it started to not work. i could still choose my network in settings, but when i would go into safari or youtube, it would say it cannot find a server. this happened once, then fixed itself somehow, and now it is doing it again. in the wi-fi settings when i click on my network, the IP Address fades in and out if i watch long enough. I tried resetting and that did not fix the problem. Is it my router?

I just got my ipod touch a couple weeks back. At first I surfed the net just fine. Past couple days i've noticed while on the internet it will just sporadically go right back to the home page, terminating what I'm in. this seems to happen most often when a page is loading. It seems to be happening more and more lately and is annoying. I was thinking of just resetting factory settings and see if that works, but was wondering if this is something anyone has seen.

Today same Touch no changes won't connect at same unsecured network at work, and wont't connect to my WiFi at home. Reset the wireless. Reset the router. Tried everything. I bought this to take with me for vacation tomorrow mainly to have the WiFi while i was away and now can't even get internet conntection. Called Apple they were supposed to call me back tonight...gave me a phone $ and code to call them back too but got voice mail of tech support person who told me to use this code to get directly back to them. Totally disgusted with Touch and Apple support. $400 down the drain cause I can't use it

I've been having the same problems everyone else has been having with the connections. Where my itouch was working perfectly for awhile and then it just didn't work anymore. But I took someone's advice on here and reset the whole itouch and it worked like a charm! So if you're getting the message that says "Cannot find server" go to settings, then go to general settings and press "Reset all Settings" then after your itouch restarts go back to your wifi connection, click on your wifi and it should work.

What Mohan said a while back worked for me to correct the "Safari cannot find the page" problem. This is what I had to do in the end (written as instructions to potentially help anyone else):

1) Disconnect the iPod from the wi-fi network.
To do this, tap settings, press the arrow next to your network, then tap "Forget this network".
2) Restart your router.
3) Connect your computer to the router.
4) Open a web page using the computer, if that works, go to next step.
5) Open iTunes. Connect the iPod to the computer, wait for all syncing to finish.
6) Join the network on the iPod.
7) Browse around on the iPod to check that all the pages load.
8) Disconnect the iPod and it should work. No guarantees, though.

Seems to be something new with the 1.1.3 or 1.1.4 software update on the iPod or the latest iTunes.

Does my wireless key have to be in capitals because that would be awfully fiddly since there is only a shift key.

It may be something to do with my livebox because it won't connect to my playstaion 3 either but it has connected easily enough to two laptops just not my ipod or playstation.

SO BASICALLY, YOU HAVE A IPOD ONLY TO PLAY MUSIC AND VIDEOS. oH, WELL, WHEN IT DOES NOT FREEZES...

wireless issues on my itouch. I have recently jailbroken the itouch and after i did that the internet at my home continued to work, but all of a sudden it stopped, i checked to see if this was a problem with the ipod but it was not, as it still continues to connect to other servers/wi-fi connections. I checked the settings on the itouch and realized that it is connecting to a different ip.address from what it did before, on top of that my computer which still works is connected to the right ip address. So the itouch connects but the internet does not work. Can someone help me with this issue? I have tried resetting the router but to no avail.

I've had many of the same problems with wifi connecting as others: It is connected to a network, but can't access the web through Safari or itunes, youtube, etc. I tried endless solutions. Finally, I read on another site that "updating the firmware" could solve the problem. I have an Actiontec dsl modem, so thought I would give that a try. First, though I decided to change my modem password via the online site and it automatically "reset" my password and shut down the modem, then started it back up. Poof! Magic! The iTouch suddenly started working like a charm. Don't know why or what it had to do with my problem, but it might be worth a try for others.

When I punch in the p/w for my home network, it shows a random IP address(not mine), and it doesn't help at all when I click "Renew Lease". I think it has something to do with what someone said about information overload or something. xP

All - I am working on a friends ipod touch and found this site. Just to let everyone know, basics in networking tell you that if you use DHCP and you receive an address of 169.254.xxx.xxx then your wireless device is not obtaining an IP address. I am having the same issue with this ipod touch I am working on. I noticed several on here mentioned that they are getting connected and they have an IP, but is it an IP that begins with the numbers I mentioned? If so, your device is assuming that it is talking to the network when it really is not.

thomas jones said...

i had that problem and realized what was wrong! Referring to the 169 etc ip address. It is because the WEP key is encrypted at 128bit instead of 64bit. However i have no clue how to make it work on a 128bit. I had this problem and then changed the encryption rate from 128 to 64 and then the correct ip address shows along with the DNS. Alert if you DO NOT see a DNS in the wireless info (That is you hit the blue arrow near the wireless conection)that means that it is NOT working. You must have a DNS number in order to have it worked. One thing you can do is change to static ip and try to find the DNS and write it manually into the ipod touch. I tried this but it didn work so well.

My iPod Touch doesn't always work on my network. Its secured (WEP) and the Ipod has the correct password but sometimes it comes back with an incorrect IP/Subnet and NO DNS info. Other times it works fine, receiving the an IP from DHCP (192.168.1.***). When it doesn't work, it comes back with an IP like 154.172.84.98 (not sure if thats the exact IP) and subnet 255.255.0.0. I dont know if this is the iPod or my router, but other wireless devices don't seem to have any trouble. Any ideas?

Thanks, Ian.

I'm going to save (hopefully) some of you a lot of time.

If you have a laptop that connects to the same router/access point that you are trying to connect to with your Touch and the Touch does not connect, resetting your router is an obvious waste of time. The following generally assumes that another wireless device - laptop, desktop, whatever - CAN connect to your router/access point and works fine. You should easily get DSL speeds on your Touch. I mean if you have a 3000/640 connection, then you should see 2/3's of that, minimum.

I've gone through the process of being escalated to an iPhone engineer via Executive Customer Relations in order to troubleshoot my Touch WiFi problems, and so I'll spell it out for you.

If you receive an error message, call support, search the Apple forums or go to an Apple store. You probably have software problem, but there's still a chance it's hardware. Error messages get you somewhere with regular phone Apple support. Slow WiFi without error messages doesn't get you very far with them at all. You'll need to go above the supervisor or you'll simply be told there's nothing to be done since you're connecting without errors.

So, If you do not receive error messages and browsing, YouTube etc, is painfully slow, this is what Apple's best will have you do:

Reset the Touch: hold down the round front button and the power button simultaneously until you you see the silver apple. Let go and allow the Touch to reboot. If it doesn't reboot, repeat the process until it does.

Try your connection. No good? Reset Network under settings. No good?

Turn off security and/or MAC filtering on your router or access point, reboot the device and your touch. Try to connect. Yes? Good. You're entering something wrong (WEP key, password etc). No? - >

If you ARE connecting to your wifi network but getting very slow wifi speeds, do the following if you've updated to 2.0 or 2.0.1 firmware:

Go to your home directory folder, then Library folder, then iTunes folder. Find the pkg with the downloaded firmware. You'll see the numbers - e.g., if 2.0.1 you'll see those numbers within the filename. Drag it to the trash. This will force iTunes to re-download the update (no charge) when you restore. This eliminates any possible corruption of the downloaded firmware. Long shot, but it can save you a lot of time. If you're running 1.1.4 less, you'll have to restore to that version on your hardrive; once you've upgraded to 2.0 or above, you can't downgrade. Keep that in mind if you have a good connection now and don't need the app store.

Restore the Touch.

With an open router or access point (no WEP, no security PERIOD - WIDE OPEN) try to connect. If so, you're good to go. Use your Touch this way for awhile, don't implement security right away. Run speed tests, stream YouTube. Test the connection good before thinking you're cured.

If after all the above you're still having problems you need another Touch - something on the board is bad.

Good luck. My Touch was replaced, and I know two other people who've had theirs replaced due to WiFi failure. It can be total failure and it can be intermittent failure. The latter is what's so time consuming. This is - more times than you think - a hardware problem.

Good luck!

If your having problems connecting to your home network thinking you have entered the correct password but are still told your unable to connect like me, make sure you have the correct case selected as the keyboard shows uppercase no matter what case your typing. Default is lower case so to enter an uppercase password the shift key must be highlighted. Hope this helps.

After switching between WPA/WPA2 and WEP security options without success, I instead tried today switching off security using airport admin, then switching switching it back on again with the same password. I chose "forget network" on the iTouch, reconnected with the password and voilá - Im connected! The problem seemed to be with airport router and not the iTouch. Hope this helps!

I just got my ipod touch today and it's awesome. The only flaw is that I cannot connect to the internet. I enter in the info I have and it still won't connect. At my school, University of Illinois at Chicago, we have to put in our login name and password to be able to hook up to the internet on our laptops and I tried doing this with my iPod touch and it still says it can't find the network or it is unable to connect to the internet. I also made sure I put in the original name of the network before I customized it. Everything I enter is correct, I know that much because i have to use it everyday. I have no idea what else to do. Tips would be greatly appreciated.

I bought an ipod touch yesterday and i dont know what code to put in for my wi-fi pasecode

It seems that WPA2 in any form does not work with the iPod Touch. So we changed the Security online (your router has a unique IP number on the back); we changed to WPA and the TKIP encryption and put in our password and it works on iPod and on the laptops. It is less secure than WPA2 but it works.

My ipod used to connect to my home wi-fi perfectly fine till the time it was unsecured. The day i made it secured by setting its security mode as WPA it stopped connecting to wi-fi. Now in my ipod when i go to Settings > Wi-Fi and connect to my network it should ask me for a password. But instead it gives me the following message - 'Unable to join the network "xyz"'.

Please help.

My iPod works fine, but sometimes after I leave my house, and in extent, my wi-fi, I can't go on youtube, iTunes, the Apps Store, or some of my applications like Pandora radio and others. Everytime this happens i have to turn off my wi-fi for sevral hours and then after I turn it back on after a few hours it works, but i would like to know why this is, how I can prevent it from happening, and how I can get it to work immediately after, instead of waiting until hours later. If you could help me i would be deeply appreciative. thank you for taking your time to read my message, and please help me with my problem.

HEY,
I got my ipod a week ago, and I cannot connect to the wifi connection in my univ campus. I am able to connect my laptop to the wifi connection, but for some reason, my touch isn't even detecting the connection. Please help.

Hi! I keep getting message "unable to join the network". What IS the correct password to put in? WPA, WEP, Network Key (Sky Netgear)? What do WEP and WPA look like? I have many "codes" to choose from!

My Ipod Touch used to be fine with wireless, but now when i go into settings and i choose my wireless network, it tells me to put in a password.
so i put in the password, which i know is right, and sometimes it comes back and says Incorrect Password and other times it says Unable to connect to preferred wireless network. if you can help me that would be great.

My Ipod is only a year old and I noticed its not detecting wireless signals as far as it had in the past. To prove my suspicion, I had a friend bring her Ipod Touch over and when we compared wireless network detections when standing side by side, she had about 5 more networks in her list and even some I had never seen in the area. I don't understand, what's wrong with my wi-fi? I mean it works, but why the decrease in performance?

I have no idea what to do! Help me please!

I have the same problem many of you do.

Recently, my iPod Touch has lost wifi connection. Just like that. Can't log in anymore, even in my own house. Another strange thing is that I can't connect to the internet with my PS3 either. However, the cable modem at home works perfectly fine.

Anybody know how I can fix this?

Thanks.

I just bought a new iPod Touch. I have a wireless router at home for my two laptops, and they all work great. But when I try to connect iPod to my wireless router at home, iPod can detect the wireless router, and then I was asked to enter a password. I assume it's the Network Key that I use for both of my laptops, but every time I enter it for the iPod, it says password invalid. I reset the router key, and had to change it on both laptops, and the laptops work great, again, but the iPod still wont accept the password. I was wondering if the password asked by iPod is something else other than the Network Key. Please help! Thanks!

After hours of gnashing my teeth, I finally tripped over a brief comment in these posts that suggested putting in the WEP key. I just knew this couldn't be correct but I had tried everything else. You got it right! I put in the WEP key and are off and running. This was a quite new Netgear and tracking down the WEP key (some time ago) was somewhat painful until I called and a decent gent walked me right through the process. Oh yes, and watch your cases!!

I too could not get my iPod Touch to connect to my home WiFi (Linksys WRT54G Router), yet I could connect fine at work and other hotspots. After much frustration, I finally updated my firmware and, voila, everything is fine. Simple as that.

Hey there guys... frustrating at times all this tech stuff but never fear there is an answer (sorry mac only).

If you have a mac then do this:
1. turn airport on first (top bar of preferences)
2. go to apple/system preferences/sharing/internet and start internet sharing over the airport (in my case).
3. your ipod touch or iphone will then have an available connection so,
4. go to settings (ipod)/wifi/choose a network and of course choose the network displayed...

Done!

try entring you network key as your password but use capital letters so every time before you enter a letter press the capital arrow button as it changes back to small case after every letter i was have so many problems but now my ipod connects.
